Summary of Project
This course was developed as a doctoral project evidencing the knowledge and practice of teaching professional and technical communication.
The course focuses on the research, theory, and application of professional and technical communication, particularly for students preparing for scientific and technological careers.
The curriculum integrates humanistic and technological approaches through rhetorical principles and strategies, user-centered design and analysis, and software and media applications.
In-class activities emphasize collaborative learning, with students working in groups to explore concepts and share their thinking through designated presenters and written summaries. Out-of-class activities extend this work primarily through individual assignments and selected project-based partnerships.
The course culminates in a scaffolded sequence of four major projects—an annotated bibliography, ethics & critical awareness analysis, data visualization tool review video, and grant proposal—with each project developing knowledge and skills that contribute to the work that follows.
